The invention relates to a method for the cutting or shaping working of metallic or ceramic workpieces and the use of a preferably submerged tool, whereby during the machining process a cooling agent, comprised at least mostly of carbon dioxide (CO2), is supplied to the working position. The invention further relates to a tool for carrying out said method. According to the invention, the cooling in particular of submerged tools may be improved, whereby liquid CO2 under pressure is supplied internally through the tool and released from the tool in the direct vicinity of the actual machining position, expanding through a pressure drop to atmospheric pressure, to give a cooling flow, comprising cold gas and ice particles.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'usinage par enlèvement de copeaux ou par façonnage de pièces métalliques ou céramique et l'utilisation d'un outil, de préférence, d'un outil d'immersion. Lors de l'opération d'usinage, un agent de refroidissement constitué au moins principalement de dioxyde de carbone (CO¿2?) est cédé au point d'usinage. L'invention concerne également un outil permettant de mettre en oeuvre ce procédé. Pour améliorer le refroidissement, notamment des outils d'immersion, du CO¿2? fluide sous pression traverse l'outil et, à proximité immédiate du point d'usinage à proprement dit, il sort de l'outil et est expansé dans ce point d'usinage par chute de la pression jusqu'à une pression ambiante pour donner un flux d'agent de refroidissement contenant un gaz froid et de la neige.
