The invention herein relates to the method and use in an antifouling paint that specifically and efficiently impede settlement of for example barnacles on aquatic structures, using imidazole containing compound, such as Medetomidine, bound to a sulfonated, acid sulphate ester, phosphonic acid, carboxylic acid or acid phosphate ester modified polymer backbone such as polystyrene or acrylate polymers. The aim is to employ the biocide-polymer complexes as additives in a self-polishing paint for controlled release purposes.

La présente invention concerne un procédé ainsi qu'une utilisation dans une peinture antifouling qui empêche spécifiquement et efficacement l'adhérence par exemple des anatifes sur des structures marines, à l'aide d'un composé contenant de l'imidazole tel que la médétomidine, lié à un squelette polymère sulfoné modifié par ester de sulfate acide, acide phosphonique, acide carboxylique ou ester de phosphonate acide tel que des polymères de polystyrène ou des polymères acryliques. L'objectif est d'utiliser les complexes de biocides-polymères en tant qu'additifs dans une peinture auto-lustrante à des fins de libération lente.
