Abstract Method of lasting the heel seat of shoes using a lasting wiper assembly (16) which wipes the lasting margin (28) over the insole (29). In this case the shoe on its last is alignably positioned in relation to the lasting wiper assembly (16) by an advancing movement substantially in the direction of the plane of said assembly (16). In this regard, the wiper assembly (16) is brought into a sufficiently closed intermediate position (Figure 3) that, when the advancing movement is completed, it has just traversed the insole edge (31) substantially about the whole of its periphery. Advancing movement of the shoe on its last is effective with the insole (29) in a heightwise position relative to the lasting wiper assembly (16) in which position the lasting margin (28) is first laid over the insole (29) with some play. The shoe on its last is then automatically aligned under pressure against the wiper assembly (16), whereupon, with the shoe on its last now in a fixed position, the wiper assembly (16) effects the lasting operation.
