ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for trimming wood for optimum yield, in which a base quality is selected and a portion of a piece of wood meeting such quality is measured off, and then lengths of portions of the piece of wood meeting higher quality requirements are calculated from the measured portion. The wood is trimmed in accordance with these calculations.
