A process for recognizing handwritten and/or connected numeric strings, in particular postal condes, is described. By converting the raster image into a one-dimensional string of feature vectors this permits the segmentation-free recognition of a numeric string, using an HMM recognition device. Also described are particularly useful examples of feature extraction.

L'invention a pour objet un procédé de détection de séquences numériques manuscrites et/ou liées, en particulier de codes postaux, caractérisé en ce qu'on effectue une transformation de l'image tramée en une séquence monodimensionnelle de vecteurs caractéristiques, permettant la détection, sans segmentation de l'image, d'une séquence numérique, avec utilisation d'un système de reconnaissance HMM. Des exemples d'extraction de caractéristiques particulièrement avantageux sont également décrits.
