Ammonia is removed from synthesis gas, or other gaseous solvents by utilizing a sorbent to remove the ammonia followed by an in situ regeneration of the sorbent and recovery of the ammonia. The ammonia is sorbed onto the bed of sorbent, thereby producing a purified gaseous solvent. Regeneration is achieved by using at least a portion of the gaseous solvent which is then acted upon to increase its solvent capacity for the ammonia and passed through the sorbent in the opposite direction to desorb the ammonia from the sorbent to provide an increased solvent capacity gaseous solvent. The ammonia is then recovered from the increased solvent capacity gaseous solvent.
L'invention concerne un procédé consistant à enlever l'ammonium du gaz de synthèse ou d'autres solvants gazeux au moyen d'un sorbant permettant d'enlever l'ammonium. Le procédé consiste ensuite à régénérer in situ le sorbant et à récupérer l'ammonium. L'ammonium est retenu sur le lit de sorbant, ce qui produit un solvant gazeux purifié. On peut effectuer la régénération en utilisant au moins une partie du solvant gazeux que l'on traite ensuite pour augmenter sa capacité de dissolution de l'ammonium et que l'on passe à travers le sorbant dans le sens inverse pour désorber l'ammonium du sorbant afin d'obtenir un solvant gazeux dont la capacité de dissolution est augmentée. L'ammonium est ensuite récupéré à partir du solvant gazeux dont la capacité de dissolution est augmentée.
