A method for applying a mount plate to a transformer for supporting an elongate mast begins with a jig plate arranged to engage the transformer. The jig plate is mounted onto the transformer by a support means and a post mounted at the centre of the jig plate has an axis and a plurality of guide holes arranged on a circle surrounding the axis. A drill mounted at the top end of the post is arranged to rotate about the axis, wherein a drill bit on the drill is inserted through the guide holes for drilling holes into the transformer. A restricting member on the drill bit restricts the drilling depth so that the drill bit does not drill through the transformer. An apparatus for threading the holes in the transformer threads the holes made by the drill and a stud is inserted into each hole and tightened to an appropriate torque. A plurality of holes on a mount plate correspond with the studs so that the mount plate can be mounted on the transformer and a bolt is applied to each stud for supporting the mount plate which are tightened lightly to an appropriate torque.
