A method of coating a corrugated pipe (20) includes preparing an asphalt composition (30) having a polymer constituent within the range of from about 3 to about 20 percent, the composition (30) having a softening point within the range of from about 180°F (82°C) to about 250°F (121°C), and a viscosity at a temperature of 360°F (182°C) within the range of from about 600 (0.6 Pa s) to about 4000 cps (4 Pa s), heating the asphalt composition (30) to a temperature within the range of from about 340°F (171°C) to about 390°F (199°C), and coating the corrugated pipe (20) by positioning at least a portion of the corrugated pipe (20) in the heated asphalt composition (30) for a time sufficient for the corrugated pipe (20) to reach a temperature of at least 150°F (66°C). The coated pipe (20) is then removed from the asphalt composition (30) for cooling.
