Abstract of the Disclosure: A method for converting a secondary scale formed on a hot rolled steel strip which comprises blowing a scale- converting agent in the form of solid powder or granule to the surface] of a running steel strip which has been just hot rolled or is being hot rolled after the removal of a primary scale, said scale-converting agent particles being melted at least at their surface just before they collide with the strip surface, thereby the strip surface is coated with the scale- converting agent.
