A method for attaching a service device, such as a plastic handle (14), to a flexible container sidewall (20) and a container (12) prepared by the method. The inside of the container (12) is supported rigidly to effect a strong bond between the container (12) and the handle (14). The invention also pertains to the container having a separately formed one-piece plastic handle permanently welded to the container sidewall.
