Currently in a wired phone network a subscriber is identified by their physical connection. In this invention a phone user will be identified to the fixed network by a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) to provide user identification secure (encrypted) communications and global roaming in a fixed telecommunications network. The SIM is a unique identifier. In the example listed it is a smartcard containing information about the user. It could also be a finger print used in conjunction with a biometrics scanner, or any other secure device used for unique identification.
