A method for bleaching unbleached softwood or hardwood pulps using hydrogen peroxide without added alkali for activation is described. The aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution contains an alkaline earth metal carbonate, preferably magnesium carbonate and can be used at elevated temperatures. Bleached hardwood or softwood mechanical pulps with high brightness, low yellowness (b*) and reduced reversion properties are produced.

L'invention porte sur un procédé de blanchiment de pâte de bois résineux et de pâte de feuillus non blanchies au moyen de peroxyde d'hydrogène, sans ajout d'alcali pour l'activation du processus. La solution aqueuse de peroxyde d'hydrogène, qui contient du carbonate de métal alcalino-terreux, de préférence du carbonate de magnésium, peut être exposée à de hautes températures. Ce procédé permet de produire des pâtes mécaniques blanchies de bois de conifères et de feuillus présentant un degré élevé de blancheur, un faible jaunissement (b*) et qui foncent moins lorsqu'elles sont exposées à la lumière.
