A method for burning crude oil refining residues in a boiler, including a furnace (2) and injectors (5, 6, 30), characterised in that cooled gas containing oxygen (50) is injected into the furnace in the hottest portion (20) thereof to cause cracking of the tar or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and the conversion thereof into basic materials that burn readily and thus pollute less.

Le procédé de combustion de résidus du raffinage du pétrole dans une chaudière selon l'invention, comprend un foyer (2) et des injecteurs (5,6,30), il est caractérisé en ce que du gaz refroidi comprenant de l'oxygène (50) est injecté dans le foyer dans la zone la plus chaude (20) dudit foyer. L'injection dans la zone très chaude du foyer permet le craquage du goudron ou des hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques et sa conversion en produits élémentaires facilement combustibles et donc moins polluant.
