A method for converting hydrocarbons into aromatic compounds, and particularly for catalytically reforming petrols and producing aromatic compounds from paraffinic and naphthenic hydrocarbons, wherein the feedstock to be processed is contacted with a catalyst which includes a matrix consisting of transition alumina ?, transition alumina .gamma. or a mixture thereof, and 0.001-2 wt.% of silicon, 0.1-15 wt.% of at least one halogen selected from the group which consists of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine, 0.01-2 wt.% of at least one noble metal from the platinum family, 0.005-10 wt.% of at least one promoter metal selected from the group which consists of tin, germanium, indium, gallium, thallium, antimony, lead, rhenium, manganese, chromium, molybdenum and tungsten, and optionally 0.001-10 wt.% of a doping metal.

L'invention concerne un procédé de transformation d'hydrocarbures en composés aromatiques, en particulier de reformage catalytique des essences et de production de composés aromatiques à partir d'hydrocarbures paraffiniques et naphténiques, procédé dans lequel la charge à traiter est soumise à l'action d'un catalyseur. Ce catalyseur comprend une matrice d'alumine de transition , d'alumine de transition .gamma. ou d'un mélange de ces alumines, et de 0,001 à 2 % en poids de silicium, de 0,1 à 15 % en poids d'au moins un halogène choisi dans le groupe formé par le fluor, le chlore, le brome et l'iode, de 0,01 à 2 % en poids d'au moins un métal noble de la famille du platine, et de 0,005 à 10 % en poids d'au moins un métal promoteur choisi dans le groupe formé par l'étain, le germanium, l'indium, le gallium, le thallium, l'antimoine, le plomb, le rhénium, le manganèse, le chrome, le mobybdène et le tungstène, et éventuellement de 0,001 à 10 % en poids d'un métal dopant.
