A method for checking a glass container (2) by counting, measuring and classifying bubbles formed in the container wall is disclosed. According to the method, an image of the container (2) is picked up by a sensor (6) sensitive to light waves that pass through the container (2) when it is placed between a light source (9) and the sensor (6), and the sensed image is analysed using an image processing algorithm based on bubble identification by means of the characterising light strength thereof. A device for carrying out the method is also disclosed.
