MASTER ALLOY PRECONDITIONING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An iron-carbon-pre-alloyed powder containing manganese, chromium, molybdenum, nickel, copper and/or vanadium in quantities up to 20% by weight is precondition- ed by first sizing the powder to a particle size of -100 mesh and then substantially enveloping each particle of the powder with a metal, such as, copper, silver or platinum, effective to act as a barrier to carbon diffusion in the solid state condition. The coating on the master alloy controls carbon diffusion during liquid phase sintering with a base metal powder. - 1 -
