A method provides a handshake (42) between a handset and a bass of a wireless communication system if a "no carrier signal" condition is detected based upon a receiver signal strength indicator (RSSI) signal. The step of providing a handshake (42) further includes a step of incrementing the channel (44) to ensure that the handset and the base are communicating on a clean channel. Because a false RSSI signal may be generated as a result of receiver gain compression, the connection between the handset and the base will not be terminated if a return handshake (58) is received from the handset. Therefor, method compensates for receiver gain compression.
Une méthode est présentée pour l'établissement de la communication (42) entre un combiné et une station de base si une condition "pas de porteuse" est détectée à partir d'un signal indiquant l'intensité du signal reçu (RSSI). L'étape d'établissement d'une communication (42) est décomposée en une étape qui grossit la voie (44) pour s'assurer que le combiné et la base communiquent sur une voie dégagée.
