In a method for compressing data, in which, in a data stream composed of characters, character strings are checked for correlation with other character strings that are present at a given distance in the data stream, and in which, in each case, the number of correlating characters and the position of the correlating characters within the respective other character string constitute the compressed data, provision is made that at least one character is allowed to differ in the correlation check and that, in addition, data for correcting the at least one differing character is inserted into the compressed data.

Dans une méthode de compression de données où un flux de données est constitué de caractères, des chaînes de caractères sont vérifiées en vue d'établir une corrélation entre elles et d'autres chaînes de caractères situées à une distance donnée dans le flux de données. Dans chacun des cas, le nombre de caractères de corrélation et la position qu'occupent ceux-ci au sein de ces autres chaînes de caractères respectives constituent les données comprimées, à condition qu'au moins un caractère puisse différer au moment de l'établissement de la corrélation et que des données soient ajoutées aux données comprimées à titre de correctif du caractère divergent.
