Disclosed is a method for selective hydrogenation of citronellal to form citronellol, wherein a liquid phase in which the citronellal is dissolved and in which particles of a catalyst are suspended, said catatalyst resulting in preferential hydrogenation of carbon-oxygen double bonds in relation to carbon carbon bonds, is guided in the presence of a gas containing hydrogen through a device which inhibits the transport of the catalyst particles.
