ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method and an apparatus for continuous production of sheet material for the building industry, more particularly of non-directionally patterned, homogeneous floor- and wall- coverings based upon PVC. According to the invention, shaped pieces of thermoplastic synthetic materials are spread, with the aid of a spreading device, over a continuous means of transportation, to form a layer of shaped pieces of constant height. This layer is preheated or presintered and is then compacted with a continuous dual-belt press and is cooled. A layer of the cooled sheet, near the surface, is then removed. An apparatus for the implementation of the method is also described.
