ABSTRACT In the case of a method for implementing pyrometallurgical processes out of oxidic ores, con- centrates or intermediate products, and metallic intermediate products, by means of strongly reducing gases, or oxygen-containing gases, for producing and refining a bath of molten metal, the reducing gas is blown, through at least three nozzles, onto the sur- face of a charge, located in a cylindrical, axial furnace chamber, at a speed which is above 100 m/s and below 300 m/s; the gas, which is deflected at the point of impingement, and which ascends again with a high content of CO and H2, is afterburned in the cylindrical furnace chamber by air injected secan- tially into the furnace chamber.
