ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method for continuously and automatically monitoring the electrical efficiency and control consistency in a liquid crystal display unit consisting of determining the discharge or charge time of the capacitor having as its plates each segment and the backplane or return electrode of the display unit when the feed to said segment has been disconnected, said time being determined by a binary counter which commences at the moment of disconnection of said feed and stops when the capacitive discharge or charge voltage of said capacitor, converted into digital, differs from the segment feed wave. The method also comprises monitoring the control consistency and the presence of the capacitive effect by direct comparison.
