To continuously cast thin copper slabs or round ingots from copper alloys, which slabs or ingots have a diameter of 8 to 40 mm, the present method electromagnetically agitates the smelt found inside the ingot mold. By properly dimensioning the agitator coil, the agitation power inside the smelt is limited to within a range of about 0.5 to 100 W/cm3, while the pull-off rate of the casting strand is limited to within a range of 0.05 to 1.3 m/min.

La présente invention concerne une méthode de coulée en continu de fines plaques de cuivre ou de lingots ronds, ayant un diamètre compris entre 8 et 40 mm, à partir d'alliages de cuivre. La méthode prévoit l'agitation électromagnétique de la matière en fusion se trouvant dans la lingotière. Grâce à un dimensionnement approprié de la bobine de l'agitateur, la puissance d'agitation dans la matière en fusion se limite à une plage comprise entre 0,5 et 100 W/cm3 alors que la vitesse d'arrachement de la bande de coulée se limite à une plage comprise entre 0,05 et 1,3 m/min.
