Abstract of the disclosure The invention relates to a method for controlling a device, such as a vacuum cleaner, a central vacuum- cleaning system, a mechanical ventilation system or the like, which device comprises machinery and a pipe or a pipe system connecting the central machinery with a working point . In order to avoid the installa- tion of control conductors between the working points and the central machinery , the operation of the central machinery is, according to the invention, controlled in a wireless manner by means of sound or pressure impulses which are transmitted, with the pipe or the pipe system connecting the central machinery with the working point as a channel of transmission, to a receiving sensor wherefrom the control impulses are transmitted to the central machinery . The receiving sensor is positioned in connection with the central machinery or the pipe system .
