"METHOD FOR CONTROLLING WATER CONING IN OIL WELLS" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a reservoir having an oil zone underlain by an aquifer, injection and production wells are completed by perforating them in the oil zone, well above the oil/water interface. A non-condensable gas is then injected at the injection well while the production well is simultaneously produced. In due course, the gas establishes communi- cation with the production well along the oil/water interface. A layer having a relatively high gas saturation is produced along said interface. Injection of gas is continued at a rate higher than gas is being produced at the production well. Primary production of the producing well is continued in conjunction with the gas injection. It is found that water coning at the production well is suppressed by the gas "blanket".
