ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE .beta.-Hydroxyalkylamides and certain polymers thereof are curing agents for polymers containing one or more carboxy or anhydride functions. Also, selfcuring copolymers containing carboxy and .beta.-hydroxyalkylamide functionality can be prepared. The .beta.-hydroxyalkylamides are either known compounds or may be prepared by treating an ester with an appropriately substituted amine. The .beta.-hydroxyalkylamides are effective in solution, aqueous emulsion and powder coating formulations.
