A method for damping vibration of a substrate comprises the step of applying a liquid material onto the substrate in an ambient environment, wherein, after application to the substrate, the material cures substantially instantaneously in the ambient environment. The damping composition usable therefor comprises a resin component and an isocynanate component. The resin component includes a polymer(s) for imparting tensile strength, hardness and flexibility; an optional chain extender(s) for imparting tensile strength, weatherability, flexibility, adhesion to specific substrates, and hardness; and an optional filler for imparting hardness, flexibility, and specific noise, vibration and harshness blocking characteristics to the after-application, cured surface. The isocyanate component of the composition includes an isocyanate quasi- prepolymer(s) based on a uretonimine modified MDI and a high molecular weight polyether polyol having an isocynanate equivalent content of 15.8 % and a 2,4'- isomer content of less than about 15 %; and an optional plasticizer(s) for imparting flexibility.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé d'amortissement des vibrations d'un substrat consistant à appliquer une matière liquide sur le substrat dans un environnement d'air atmosphérique au sein duquel la matière sèche presque instantanément après son application sur le substrat. La composition utilisable pour obtenir l'amortissement comporte un composant de résine et un composant isocyanate. Le composant de résine comporte un(des) polymère(s) conférant des caractéristiques de résistance à la traction, de dureté et de souplesse; un(des) allongeur(s) de chaîne éventuel(s) conférant des caractéristiques de résistance à la traction, de résistance aux intempéries, de souplesse, d'adhésion à des substrats spécifiques, et de dureté; et une charge facultative conférant des caractéristiques de dureté, de souplesse et des caractéristiques spécifiques d'amortissement du bruit, des vibrations et de la dureté à la surface durcie après application. Le composant isocyanate de la composition contient un(des) quasi-prépolymère(s) d'isocyanate à base de MDI modifié par urétonimine et un polyol de polyéther à poids moléculaire élevé ayant une concentration équivalente en isocyanate égale à 15,8 % et une concentration de 2,4'-isomère inférieure à 15 % environ; et un(des) plastifiant(s) facultatif(s) conférant des caractéristiques de souplesse.
