The invention relates to a process to minimize metallic aluminum fines loss to parasitic reactions during their introduction into the tap stream of molten steel from Basic Oxygen Furnaces or Electric Arc Furnaces in the ladle, or at the secondary steelmaking vessel, by premixing oxide-free steel or iron fines, prior to briquetting, increasing the apparent density of the aluminum-containing briquette thereby decreasing its flotation into the highly oxidized slag and minimizing the aluminum losses and increasing predictability in the molten steel properties.

L'invention concerne une méthode pour réduire au minimum les pertes de chutes fines d'aluminium métallique à des réactions parasites lors de leur introduction dans le flux de coulée de l'acier fondu de fours à l'oxygène pur ou de fours à arc électrique dans la poche, ou au niveau de la cuve de fabrication d'acier secondaire. La méthode consiste à prémélanger les chutes fines d'acier ou de fer exemptes d'oxyde, avant le briquetage, à augmenter la densité apparente de la briquette contenant de l'aluminium, ce qui diminue sa flottation dans la scorie fortement oxydée et réduit au minimum les pertes d'aluminium et augmente la prévisibilité des propriétés de l'acier fondu.
