Abstract Soil conditioning and method for desalination and reclamation of irrigated soil. Certain anionic materials or their substantially neutral water soluble salts applied to a soil in minute amounts are effective to reduce the harmful effects of salts and/or alkalis which had accumulated in the soil from irrigation water. Thus, soil in which such salts and/or alkalis have reached the concentration that whitish deposits appeared on its surface and on which crop growth was unacceptably low is restored to useful fertility level through the action of these materials.
