The invention is directed to a method for detecting noise in a signal received by a microphone array, comprising the steps of receiving microphone signals emanating from at least two microphones of a microphone array, decomposing each microphone signal into frequency subband signals, for each microphone signal, determining a time dependent measure based on the frequency sub-band signals, determining a time dependent criterion function as predetermined statistical function of the time dependent measures, and evaluating the criterion function according to the predetermined criterion to detect noise.
