Computer controlled methods, systems and apparatus for detecting an infectious agent in a host cell, an animal cell, or plant cell, a body fluid or tissue sample (200) to provide information useful to diagnose a disease or prognosticate disease susceptibility, extent or outcome are provided. In one illustrative embodiment, the infected animal cell is a Chlamydia infected mononuclear phagocyte (216) in a blood sample. In another illustrative embodiment, the infected body fluid is a blood sample infected with "free floating" Chlamydia. Detection and preferably, quantification of such an infected mononuclear phagocyte(s) (212) or blood sample provides information useful in diagnosing or prognosticating susceptibility, extent or outcome of patients suspected of suffering from vascular, coronary or central nervous disease(s) or disorder(s).
L'invention concerne des procédés gérés par ordinateur, des systèmes et un appareil destinés à détecter un agent infectieux dans une cellule hôte, une cellule animale, une cellule végétale, un liquide organique ou un échantillon de tissu afin de fournir des informations utiles en vue de diagnostiquer une maladie ou de pronostiquer la prédisposition, l'avancement ou l'issue d'une maladie. Dans un mode de réalisation caractéristique, la cellule animale infectée consiste en un phagocyte mononucléaire infecté par une <i>Chlamydia</i> dans un échantillon de sang. Dans un autre mode de réalisation caractéristique, le liquide organique infecté consiste en un échantillon de sang infecté par une <i>Chlamydia</i> "flottant librement". La détection et, de préférence, la quantification de phagocyte(s) mononucléaire(s) infecté(s) ou d'un échantillon de sang fournit des informations utiles dans le diagnostic ou le pronostic de la prédisposition, de l'avancement ou de l'issue de patients suspectés de souffrir d'une maladie ou d'un trouble vasculaire, infarctoïde ou du système nerveux central.
