ABSTRACT This invention presents a method for detecting mineral, and particularly petroleum, deposits by means of analyzing polar (Arctic) ice movements, dispersion, arrested motion and ice pile- ups. These processes exibit a certain regularity in ice dynamics which corresponds to the natural occurrence of mineral and petroleum deposits. The main indicator pointing to the location of oil deposits are the places where polar ice movements are arrested and subsequent pile-ups occur. The analysis of ice movements and ice dispersion helps to identify the geological structures containing oil-bearing formations. The proposed method can also be used to detect other mineral deposits.
