A significant number of rescue workers are killed or injured each year as they conduct searches within damaged or burning structures, unaware that the structure is in imminent danger of collapse. The present invention provides a system and method for detecting and monitoring structural damages which are irreversible and which lead to inevitable collapse of a building or structure. The system includes at least one accelerometer that is housed in a device that is mounted on an exterior surface outside the burn area, and within the reach of the rescue worker. The device communicates with a remote display that provides visual and/or audible signals to indicate imminent collapse of the structure. Additionally, the system includes collapse detecting analysis processes for determining the likelihood of collapse.
Un nombre considérable de personnel de sauvetage est tué ou blessé chaque année lors des recherches dans des structures endommagées ou en feu, non averti du fait que la structure est en danger imminent d'effondrement. La présente invention prévoit un système et un procédé pour détecter et surveiller les dommages structurels irréversibles et qui entraînent l'effondrement inévitable d'un bâtiment ou d'une structure. Le système comprend au moins un accéléromètre logé dans un dispositif fixé sur une surface extérieure, hors de la zone brûlée et à portée du sauveteur. Le dispositif communique avec un écran distant qui fournit des signaux visuels, audibles ou les deux pour indiquer l'effondrement imminent de la structure. De plus, le système comprend des processus d'analyse de détection d'effondrement pour déterminer la probabilité d'un effondrement.
