A method for determining ion channel activity of a substance comprises the steps of (i) expressing the substance as a heterologous protein in a host cell, and (ii) determining changes in permeability of the plasma membrane of the host cell induced by expression of the heterologous protein. A screening method for determining ion channel modulating activity of a test substance is also disclosed.

La présente invention concerne une technique permettant d'évaluer l'activité canal ionique d'une substance. Cette technique consiste d'abord à (i) exprimer dans une cellule la substance sous forme d'une protéine hétérologue, puis (ii) à évaluer les modifications de perméabilité de la membrane plasmatique de la cellule hôte induites par l'expression de la protéine hétérologue. L'invention concerne également une technique de recherche permettant d'évaluer l'activité modulatrice de canal ionique d'une substance à tester.
