The present invention concerns methods for determining the number of platelets in a sample. A liquid medium comprising the sample such as a whole blood sample and a matrix such as particles with which is associated a binding molecule such as an antibody for a platelet cell surface glycoprotein receptor is subjected to agglutination conditions. The agglutination of the matrix is measured as an indication of the number of receptors present in the medium. The measurement above is then related to the number of platelets in the sample. Also disclosed are kits for carrying out an enumeration of platelets in a sample.

La présente invention concerne des procédés permettant de déterminer le nombre de plaquettes présentes dans un échantillon. Ce procédé consiste tout d'abord à placer dans des conditions d'agglutination un milieu liquide renfermant à la fois cet échantillon, qui peut être un échantillon de sang entier, et une matrice se présentant par exemple sous la forme de particules et à laquelle est associée une molécule de liaison telle qu'un anticorps d'un récepteur d'une glycoprotéine de surface associé à une plaquette. Ce procédé consiste ensuite à mesurer l'agglutination de ladite matrice afin d'obtenir une indication du nombre de récepteurs présents dans le milieu, cette mesure étant ensuite comparée au nombre de plaquettes présentes dans l'échantillon. Cette invention concerne également des kits permettant d'effectuer le dénombrement des plaquettes présentes dans un échantillon.
