2149228 9408219 PCTABS00032 The invention relates to a method of determining the deformability of the surface of a test specimen (1), the method calling first for the surface-roughness profile (3) to be determined along a given path using a stylus (2) with the minimum possible load, then a loaded body which penetrates into the test specimen (1) to be passed along the same path, and finally the path to be scanned with the minimum-loaded stylus (2) again to record the new surface-roughness profile (6), the stylus itself (2) being used as the body which penetrates into the test specimen (1) and the surface-roughness profile (5) measured with the loaded stylus (2) also being recorded. The difference (7) between the last (6) and first (3) surface-roughness profile measured and the difference (9) between the last surface-roughness profile (6) and the surface-roughness profile (5) recorded with the loaded stylus are displayed.
