The invention relates to a method for determining the distance between a base station (SLG) and a mobile object (DT1-DT3), in particular in an identification system (IS) comprising at least one mobile data memory that is fixed to objects in order to act as a mobile object for recording object- specific condition and/or process data, e.g. in a dispatch, transport and/or manufacturing system. According to the invention: a HF carrier frequency and an offset frequency (df) are predetermined for a QAM modulation; the HF carrier frequency is increased and reduced by the offset frequency in sequence over time in such a way that the HF carrier base frequencies (fo+df, fo-df) resulting in an HF carrier signal (TS) thus modulated exhibit an identical phase when the frequency is changed; the HF carrier signal is subsequently transmitted and simultaneously mixed (MIX) with an HF carrier signal (RS) that has been backscattered by a mobile object to obtain a carrier phase signal (PS); the corresponding carrier phase (PH1, PH2) for the two HF carrier base frequencies is determined in sequence over time and the difference (dPH) between said phases is used to calculate the distance between the base station and the respective mobile object.

L'invention concerne un procédé servant à déterminer la distance séparant une station de base (SLG) et un objet mobile (DT1-DT3), en particulier dans un système d'identification (IS) comprenant au moins une mémoire de données fixée sur un élément et utilisée en tant qu'objet mobile pour acquérir des données d'état et/ou de processus concernant cet élément, par ex. dans un système d'envoi, de transport et/ou de production. Le procédé selon l'invention consiste : à prédéterminer une fréquence porteuse HF (fo) et une fréquence décalée (df) pour une modulation d'amplitude en quadrature (IQ) ; à augmenter et à réduire, séquentiellement dans le temps, la fréquence porteuse HF, respectivement par addition et soustraction de ladite fréquence décalée, de façon que les fréquences porteuses HF limites (fo+df, fo-df) obtenues dans un signal de porteuse HF (TS) ainsi modulé présentent une phase identique en cas de changement de fréquence ; à envoyer le signal de porteuse HF et simultanément à le mélanger (MIX) à un signal de porteuse HF (RS) renvoyé par l'objet mobile, pour obtenir un signal de phase de porteuse (PS) ; à établir, séquentiellement dans le temps, pour les deux fréquences porteuses HF limites, la phase de porteuse (PH1, PH2) correspondante, et, à partir de la différence entre ces phases de porteuse, à déterminer la distance entre la station de base et l'objet mobile respectif.
