A B S T R A C T METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE DISTANCE BETWEEN ADJACENT WELLS The distance between a first well containing ferromagnetic parts and a second well is determined using an overlay technique whereby a plotted diagram representing the wavenumber spectrum of data measured in said second well of a magnetic field surrounding said parts and a plotted diagram representing the wavenumber spectrum of a theoretical magnetic field surrounding a single magnetic monopole or dipole are marched. The technique enables an accurate distance determination even if said ferromagnetic parts form a complex pattern of magnetic poles.
