A method for aiding in differentiating irritable bowel syndrome from inflammatory bowel disease by determining the level of total endogenous human lactoferrin in clinical specimens, such as feces, mucus and bile, wherein an elevated level of lactoferrin substantially precludes diagnoses of IBS and other noninflammatory etiologies, and a kit usable in such method are provided. Further provided is a method for quantitating the level of total endogenous human lactoferrin in clinical specimens, such as feces, mucus and bile, to monitor gastrointestinal inflammation in persons having inflammatory bowel disease.
La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé qui permet de différencier le syndrome du côlon irritable des affections intestinales inflammatoires en déterminant le niveau de la lactoferrine endogène humaine totale dans des échantillons cliniques tels que les selles, le mucus et la bile, un niveau élevé de lactoferrine écartant le diagnostic du syndrome du côlon irritable et d'autres étiologies non inflammatoires, et l'invention se rapporte également à une trousse pouvant être utilisée selon ce procédé. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé qui permet de quantifier le niveau de la lactoferrine endogène humaine totale dans des échantillons cliniques tels que les selles, le mucus et la bile afin de contrôler l'inflammation gastro-intestinale chez des personnes souffrant d'une affection intestinale inflammatoire.
