L'appareil est du type comprenant un système d'éclairage laser et un dispositif vidéo. Selon l'invention, le dispositif vidéo est adapté pour filmer l'objet de deux points de vue différents (C1, C2), l'un en plongée, l'autre en contreplongée, et le système d'éclairage comprend deux sources (L1. L2) décalées latéralement par rapport aux points de vue du dispositif vidéo et situées à des hauteurs différentes pour éclairer l'objet, l'un en plongée, l'autre en contreplongée, en vue de former deux traces lumineuses sur celui-ci. Une partition est réalisée sur les signaux vidéo issus du dispositif vidéo pour distinguer les informations correspondant à chacune des deux traces. L'invention permet de relever de façon complète, sans partie masquée ou non apparente, les coordonnées de la surface d'un objet possédant des reliefs importants ou des parties fuyantes, tels qu'une tête ou un buste humain.
