A method and apparatus (10) for dispensing and distributing a powder is disclosed which uses a rotary dispenser to dispense from a hopper (11) the powder (21) by gravity onto a movable platen (12), the platen being movable to a position adjacent to a build bed, where the powder can be distributed across the build bed using a spreader. The method and apparatus are also suited to dispensing of a plurality of powders used in build beds for solid free-form fabrication and three-dimensional printing.

L'invention a trait à un procédé ainsi qu'à l'appareil correspondant permettant de distribuer de la poudre et de la répartir, lequel procédé fait appel à un distributeur rotatif amenant par gravité la poudre sur une plaque mobile. Cette plaque se déplace jusqu'à une position contiguë à un lit d'accumulation, où la poudre peut être répartie sur tout le lit à l'aide d'une épandeuse. Ce procédé ainsi que l'appareil correspondant se prêtent fort bien à la distribution de plusieurs poudres utilisées dans des lits d'accumulation aux fins de la fabrication de solides à structure non imposée et d'une impression en trois dimensions.
