Sulfur sought to be removed from deposits formed at a subterranean gas producing well are dissolved in a high boiling point relatively pure and low cost non-aqueous solvent. The dissolved sulfur is then removed from the solvent by lowering the temperature of the solution to precipitate the sulfur which is then separated and recovered as a relatively pure product. After additional processing the regenerated solvent is injected back down the well hole to dissolve additional sulfur and reutilized in successive cycles of the process.

La présente invention a trait à un procédé permettant l'élimination de soufre à partir de dépôts formés au niveau d'un puits produisant un gaz souterrain par dissolution dans un solvant non aqueux peu coûteux relativement pur ayant un point d'ébullition élevé. Le soufre dissous est ensuite éliminé à partir du solvant par la baisse de la température de la solution en vue de la précipitation du soufre qui est ensuite séparé et récupéré sous la forme d'un produit relativement pur. Suite à un traitement supplémentaire le solvant régénéré est injecté à nouveau dans le fond du puits de forage pour la dissolution de soufre additionnel et la réutilisation dans des cycles successifs du traitement.
