Disclosed is a method for electrochemically processing HCl gas into highly pure chlorine, whereby an HCl gas phase electrolysis process is combined with purified HCl gas, e.g. from chemical reactions with hydrochloric electrolysis and diluted hydrochloric acid, optionally using an oxygen consuming cathode.
