METHOD FOR EVALUATION OF THE RESPONSE OF DIFFERENT CORES TO A RECOVERY PROCESS AND APPARATUS THEREFOR (D#73,500-RCA-38-F) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method and apparatus for subjecting discrete core specimens which have been removed from a subterranean strata or formation, and which contain an amount of bitumen. The apparatus includes an enclosure means which defines a disconnectable fluid tight chamber which is in turn communicated with a source of pressurizing gas whereby to control the atmosphere within the chamber. A specimen holder is removably positioned within said fluid tight chamber having an enclosing sleeve which is adapted to receive the core specimen. Conduit means communicates the specimen holder with a source of a heating fluid whereby to inject a stream of said heating fluid into the specimen holder to raise the temperature of the pressurized core specimen and thereby to lower the viscosity of bitumen contained in said core specimen. By evaluating the temperature and the pressure to which the core sample has been subjected it is possible to determine the actual operating conditions to which an underground substrate must be subjected in order that the bitumen which is contained in the substrate can be readily removed as has been the bitumen from the core sample. The present testing method and apparatus constitutes an advance in the art regarding the evaluation of bitumen containing substrate. -I-
