The invention relates to a method for filling a vertical tube having an inner diameter of 50 mm or less with catalyst particles. According to said method, a filling aid comprising a flexible longitudinal body is introduced into the vertical tube, the ratio of the cross-section of the flexible longitudinal body to the cross-section of the tube being between 0.003 and 0.08, and the tube is filled with the catalyst particles.
