The invention relates to a method for finishing a locking surface (5), which has already been given its final shape, on a semi-automatic handgun, in particular the locking surface (5) formed by the front transversal surface, which points to the rear, of the ejection window (4) of a semi-automatic handgun. To harden the locking surface (5) without impairing neighbouring surfaces that have already been finished, a hardening laser beam scans the material surface (7) adjoining the locking surface (5) at a distance and parallel to the locking surface (5). The invention also relates to a semi- automatic handgun, in which a hard strip (11) is formed in the material structure of the slide (1), said strip having an approximately triangular cross-section with two exposed surfaces that originate from the lower edge of the locking surface (5) One of said surfaces extends upwards, with the upper edge of the locking surface (5) constituting its furthest point, and the other surface extends towards the front on the lower side of the slide (1), whereby the two ends are interconnected through the material of the slide (1), forming a structural parting plane (13).
