ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for fitting a break ring between a mold which is to be horizontally fitted to the lower part of a side wall of a tundish of a horizontal type contin- uous casting apparatus through a front nozzle and a feed nozzle, which comprises: imparting a compressive stress to the outer peripheral portion of the break ring for re- ducing tensile stress caused during casting in the outer peripheral portion of the break ring in the circumferential direction thereof by a temperature difference between the outer peripheral portion and the inner peripheral portion of the break ring, thereby constraining thermal expansion of the break ring and thus preventing the break ring from breaking.
