A method of multilayer coating, comprising the steps of applying a cationic electrodeposition paint to a metallic object, heating and curing the paint, applying a first color base coat for covering the metallic surface, applying a second color base coat having transparency on the first coat before it is substantially cured, heating and curing both of the first and second color base coats, applying then a clear paint, and heating and curing it. According to this method, it is possible to form a multilayer paint coat that shows improvement in appearance, design, decorativeness, corrosion proofness, weatherability, chipping resistance and other physical properties.

Procédé de revêtement multicouche comprenant les étapes suivantes: application d'une peinture électrolytique cationique sur un substrat métallique, chauffe et durcissement de cette peinture, application d'une première couche primaire pigmentée destinée à couvrir la surface métallique, application d'une deuxième couche primaire pigmentée transparente sur la première couche avant que celle-ci ne soit essentiellement durcie, chauffe et durcissement de l'une et l'autre des couches primaires pigmentées, application d'un vernis incolore, puis chauffe et durcissement. Ce procédé permet d'obtenir un revêtement de peinture multicouche constituant une amélioration sur le plan de l'aspect, de la mise au point, des qualités décoratives, de la résistance à la corrosion, aux intempéries ou aux éclats, ainsi que sur le plan d'autres caractéristiques physiques.
