The invention is a method for creating a "biological stent" in a tubular structure (e.g., the urethra). The biological stent is created by situating a microwave balloon device (100) in the urethra of the patient in proximity to the prostate gland, inflating the balloon (112) to apply sufficient squeezing pressure on urethral tissue to effect a certain amount of temporary widening of the urethra, and heating the narrowed bore of the urethra (preferably by employing a microwave generator having a transmitter (110) located in the balloon) to make permanent the widening of the urethra due to the formation of a biological stent. The heating, and elasticity of urethral tissue may be monitored to determine when sufficient energy has been delivered to the urethral tissue.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour créer un "extenseur biologique" dans une structure tubulaire (p.ex., dans l'urètre). On crée l'extenseur biologique en plaçant un dispositif à micro-ondes à ballonnet (100) dans l'urètre du patient à proximité de la prostate, en gonflant le ballonnet (112) pour appliquer une pression d'injection suffisante sur le tissu de l'urètre afin de dilater temporairement l'urètre et de réchauffer la lumière rétrécie de l'urètre (en employant de préférence un générateur de micro-ondes muni d'un émetteur (110) disposé dans le ballonnet), et ce pour rendre permanente la dilatation de l'urètre suite à la formation d'un extenseur biologique.
