A method of forming a cohort for use in identification of an individual by comparing a model of characteristics of the individual, such as a model of utterances, with models of the cohort including a model for the client in respect of whom it is desired to test whether the individual is identifiable. Models of at least a substantial number (preferably all) of the population excluding the client are tested to determine whether they meet an acceptance threshold test as to identify with a model for the client. Then, from each meeting the threshold test, it is determined whether those models are distributed so as to present at least a substantial probability that models for non-members of the population spaced from the client model in all directions will each be closer to a member of the cohort, excluding the client, than to the client. If that probability is less than a predetermined value, a selection is made from the population of another cohort member which will reduce that probability. Alternatively, if the mentioned probability is less than the predetermined value, a "phantom" model is generated for inclusion in the population and which will reduce that probability. The method may employ both the described selection and "phantom" generation techniques.
Cette invention concerne une méthode de formation d'une cohorte pour identifier un individu par comparaison d'un modèle des caractéristiques de l'individu, comme le modèle de prononciation, avec d'autres modèles issus de la cohorte, dont un modèle pour le sujet vis-à-vis duquel ont veut savoir si l'individu est identifiable ou non. De nombreux modèles (tous, si possible) de la population, à l'exception du sujet, sont testés afin de déterminer s'ils réussissent un test seuil d'acceptation et s'ils correspondent à un modèle pour le sujet. Ensuite, pour chaque modèle ayant réussi le test seuil, on étudie s'ils sont répartis de façon à ce qu'il y ait, pour le moins, une forte probabilité que les modèles pour les non-membres de la population, dispersés en tous sens par rapport au modèle du sujet, soient plus proche d'un membre de la cohorte, à l'exception du sujet, que du sujet lui-même. Si cette probabilité est inférieure à une valeur prédéterminée, on procède, parmi la population, à la sélection d'un autre membre de la cohorte qui permettra de diminuer cette probabilité. Une autre solution, dans le cas où ladite probabilité est inférieure à la valeur prédéterminée, consiste à créer un modèle "fantôme" qui sera inclus à la population afin de diminuer cette probabilité. Cette méthode peut faire appel en mêmes temps au deux techniques de sélection et de création de "fantômes" décrites ci-dessus.
